When we moved into our house we found that the previous owners had left a clock in almost every single room. Some of them came in handy, but my crafty brain (read “hoarder”) made me hold onto the extra one so that I could use the mechanism. Finally, 3 years later, I’ve made a new DIY marble clock using vinyl and I think it’s pretty darn cute. It was seriously so simple and used only 3 supplies. I wish I’d done it long ago!
What you need:
Marble patterned vinyl
Clock mechanism or old clock
Wood, thin enough for the clock mechanism to go through a hole, cut into a hexagon
Drill a hole in the centre of the hexagon, large enough for the mechanism to fit snuggly through. Cut a piece of vinyl about 3cm larger than each side.
Peel backing off vinyl and place smoothly onto your wood. Cut away from the corners, at an angle into each hexagon corner. Fold marble vinyl edges tightly over onto the back of the wooden clock face.
Use a craft knife to gently cut a hole in the vinyl, to match the drilled hole. Place clock mechanism through the hole and set the time.
What DIY have you been putting off for way too long? It’s such a great feeling of accomplishment when you finally get it done. Just do it! Maybe yours will also turn out much simpler than you imagine and you’ll get to enjoy the finished product. If you don’t have a DIY waiting to be done, why not make this clock and then get some more simple ideas from these tutorials.
